Words of Wisdom from Laura and Leilani

As I was doing my daily “rounds” of websites, I happened upon a really important article written by Laura Godfrey and Leilani Martinez of GSA. If their names sound familiar, don’t be surprised; Laura and Leilani are two of the powerhouses behind the success of GobiernoUSA.gov and shared the 2009 AFFIRM Leadership Award for Service to the Citizen for their efforts on the site.
As I was saying, Laura and Leilani have authored a great piece of commentary that examines how user feedback is important, but is still only one part of website development. Based on their experience managing GobiernoUSA.gov, the two web mavens suggest that agencies not overstate the importance of user feedback when it comes to developing multilingual sites. Instead, they insist that a strong focus on strategy will lead to a pleasant and informative user experience.
According to the article, “A well-thought-out information architecture, organization, and look and feel are keys to any site in any language. Web sites need to make sense to their users.” I’d like to issue a hearty head nod to that statement. Make sure you read the rest of their suggestions and insights over at Government Computer News.
